10 New Book Ideas for Toddlers Based on Their Favorite Stories
Helping encourage a love for reading is one of the very best things you can do as a parent. Having access to a variety of books and stories goes a long way in helping to establish this foundation, even for the youngest of kids! Did you know it’s also hugely helpful for language development? We talk about it more in depth in this blog post.
One small way you can help cultivate a love of reading and books is to follow your child’s interests and pay attention to what they gravitate to. These things may often change but it’s a helpful starting point!
So we thought we’d help you out–taking what you know your child already loves and giving you something else to try that’s similar (but not the same thing you’ve read 1,000 times). Here are ten recommendations for when you’re wondering what in the world to read next!
WHERE IS MAISY | 2. GOODNIGHT OWL | 3. LITTLE OWL’S NIGHT | 4. GOOD NIGHT, GOOD NIGHT | 5. DOG’S COLORFUL DAY
We love how bright and engaging these are for readers of all ages. They are fun to look at AND read over and over! This is just a starting point for the next time you are looking to add new reading material to your routine. Did you know most public libraries will allow you to make requests to purchase books if it's something they don’t already have in circulation? We also love asking for books for our kids for birthdays and holidays.
Any book your child loves is a great book! Remember, at this young age–the goal is to encourage a positive association with reading and we hope this sparks some new ideas. We’ve linked all the books above, but you can also find general recommendations on Amazon and Bookshop. And of course, the library is an excellent place to find some of these as well.
Happy reading,
Katie + Carly
P.S. We are obsessed with finding the best books for toddlers and preschoolers. During the pandemic, we ended up hosting virtual song + story times with families, and it evolved into what is now our Songs+Stories membership.
If you’re interested in intentional screen time that supports your little one’s development (and won’t lead to meltdowns), we think you’ll love it!
Right now, you can try 3 free story time videos to get a taste of the membership and see what your little one thinks (No credit card information required).
